About Us

History

Liby Dynamites Basketball Club has its roots in Kilsaran National School where basketball was first started by Mr Terry Doherty in the late 1970s.

Terry came to the school as a young teacher and started a football team with the boys and a basketball team with the girls.

Many of those young players are now the parents of present club members.

Training was held on the outdoor court in the local community centre in the early days and the various teams reigned supreme on primary school leagues for many years.

The club was formed when players left primary school but still wanted to play basketball. Kilsaran Basketball Club had teams playing in a mixture of Dublin League, North East League, community Games and local school leagues ever since.

Terry Doherty fostered a love of the sport in scores of children down through the years and the club is now thriving with juvenile members both boys & girls growing year on year.

Kilsaran Dynamites basketball club was formed in September 2010 when the senior Dundalk ladies club ‘The Dames’ united with the ‘Kilsaran’ juvenile basketball club.

The Dames brought coaching expertise and senior players while Kilsaran brought juvenile players and energy.

The synergy was immediate and the new Kilsaran Dynamites took off.

The new club entered 5 teams in the North East Basketball League in 2010-2011 season

Under 12 girls

Under 14 boys

Under 14 girls

Under 16 girls

Senior ladies team.

We also started training the future of the club the Dynamite mini’s who range in age from 7 up to 10.

In 2013 we changed our name to Liby Dynamites Basketball Club after receiving sponsorship from Liby Europe.

Today

The membership has grown to over 100 juvenile members, ranging in age from 7 to senior.

The Liby Dynamites now have members from all over Louth and beyond.

We have following teams playing in the North East League.

Boys: U12, U16

Girls: U12, U14, U16, U18 & Senior

5 of our 6 teams last season competing in the North East League reached the Top4 finals.

We competed in the Barcelona Basketball Cup in June 2012 our 1st international tournament with an U16 Girls team finishing 3rd overall.

In July 2013 we competed in the Santa Susanna Cup in Spain at U16 & Senior ladies.

Our U16 girls won the tournament. Our Senior Ladies had a brilliant games against a professional team from Paris and really enjoyed the experience

holding them to level scores at half time, eventually losing on the scoreboard but gaining huge respect along the way.
